💬 INTRODUCTION

Pooky G is a dynamic personality hailing from the vibrant city of Edmonton, Alberta. More than just a playful spirit, Pooky is an Indigenous award-winning hip-hop artist, radio personality, actress, and model. Pooky is a powerhouse in the Indigenous entertainment industry and a facilitator of empowerment workshops.

🔥 THE PASSION

Growing up in the inner city without many resources available, I’ve had to make the best with what I was given. Music has been a major outlet for as far back as I can remember. I have been drawn to all types of genres, with hip hop most specifically capturing my attention because I related to many of the stories told through song form. The entertainment industry has always captivated my attention.

🇨🇦 COMMUNITY & CANADIAN PRIDE

Being born and raised in Treaty 6 territory, also known as Amiskwaciwâskahikan, has been my home since day one. Culture and ceremony have kept me connected to my Indigenous roots, and I’m proud to represent that part of my identity through my practices and performances.

🚀 BUILDING THE DREAM

Winning Best Hip Hop Album in 2022 at the International Indigenous Hip Hop Awards was confirmation for me that I am on the right path in my career. Being nominated for a lead role for my part in the movie Abducted has also had a major positive impact on my acting journey.

🤝 NETWORKING SPOT

I have been collaborating with many artists and look forward to working with even more creatives to align our talents in the right direction, while promoting each other so our fans can witness the open-mindedness that comes from branching out for successful career development.

⭐ CLOSING

I have opened for many big names in the past and continue to receive opportunities to showcase my talent across Canada.

COMETS QUESTIONS

COMET: What drew you to acting, and how does stepping into film challenge or expand you as an artist?

POOKY G: I absolutely love anything entertainment-related. I’m drawn toward film as an expansion of my talent, and I have resources I can utilize to connect with agents and auditions. You can see me on screen in a movie called Abducted, available on APTN Lumi.

COMET: What personal attributes or strengths do you feel you carry that truly benefit you in this industry?

POOKY G: Having the courage and confidence to step out of my comfort zone has always been key to moving forward toward my goals and success.

COMET: On the rare moments when you actually have free time — what do you enjoy doing when there’s nothing scheduled?

POOKY G: Being busy is my main focus, but during downtime I spend time with family and enjoy quality moments together.

COMET: What’s the funniest or most unexpected thing that’s happened to you while working on set or in film so far?

POOKY G: Showing up to set one day and being met with a stunt coordinator was definitely a surprise. I had to train for filming a fight scene — needless to say, I kicked a** lol.

COMET: For children growing up in First Nations communities — especially those who may feel like outsiders — what advice would you share?

POOKY G: I always remind them that even if they feel like they’re in the middle of nowhere, it’s about seeing yourself at the center of everything. Changing your outlook on life is powerful because life is what we make it, not what it makes us. One day they will have a story to tell that may become part of someone else’s survival guide.

COMET: When it comes to creating, what’s your preferred method?

POOKY G: Music comes to me often. I find myself writing bars on planes when I’m about to sleep or even while writing entries in my book. Music has always been a therapeutic outlet for me.

COMET: What does an average day look like for you in the studio?

POOKY G: I usually have my songs written before heading to the studio. I make sure my flow runs smoothly with the beat — then it’s in, lay tracks, and back to business as usual.

COMET: Now that you’ve stepped into film, have you considered voice acting?

POOKY G: I’ve auditioned a few times for voiceovers for animation and PSAs, but I prefer acting in front of the camera.

COMET: If you could perform anywhere in the world with no limits — where would that dream stage be?

POOKY G: Japan or NYC.

COMET: What challenges have you faced as a woman in this industry?

POOKY G: I’m grateful that I haven’t experienced much trouble as a femcee. Staying in my lane and minding my own business has played a big role in where I am today.

COMET: Who inspires you creatively?

POOKY G: I’ve collaborated with big names in the past who inspired me and motivated me to go harder.

COMET: What’s something someone taught you that you’ve never forgotten?

POOKY G:

“Get up, get out there, and get it!”

It’s not going to come to you — because if nothing changes, nothing changes.

COMET: Is there something you still hope to accomplish one day?

POOKY G: My book, another movie, possibly stand-up comedy, and developing a podcast.

FINAL TAKEAWAY:

With her roots grounded in Treaty 6 territory and her creativity continuing to expand across music, film, and community work, Pooky G shows no signs of slowing down. Whether through powerful lyrics, on-screen performances, or future projects still on the horizon, she continues to represent her culture, her city, and the next generation of creatives with pride!
