Backstairs Burger x Comets Crew: More Than Just a Collaboration

Backstairs Burger has built something unique — creating opportunities for creators, businesses, and community members to come together through food and collaboration. Each month, the restaurant works alongside selected creatives to help bring new menu ideas and experiences to life!

When Comets Crew stepped into that process, it quickly became more than just creating a burger. The one-month feature evolved into a larger creative experience involving photographers, videographers, chefs, artists, creators, organizations like Healthy Aligned Living, and local supporters — each contributing their own energy and perspectives to the experience.

The Collaboration

The invitation into the collaboration came through @sashaaelizabeth, helping connect Comets Crew with the experience taking place at Backstairs Burger. Throughout the feature, @hai.comett had the opportunity to work directly alongside Chef Levi — exchanging ideas, discussing flavors, refining concepts, and helping shape the final recipe through ongoing conversations and collaboration.

Over time, different ingredients, combinations, and creative directions were explored back and forth online until everything finally came together in a way that felt right for the feature.

@sashaaelizabeth also played a major role throughout the process, helping maintain communication, coordinate ideas, and keep everything moving smoothly behind the scenes. Together, she and Chef Levi even created the official flyer for the feature themselves — bringing both the creative and promotional sides of the collaboration together as a true team effort.

Watching the idea evolve from simple conversations into a finished product made the experience feel far more hands-on and collaborative than simply showing up to document an already completed concept. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE FIRST BITE!

Community Creators Involved Beyond the restaurant

As part of the feature, a group of four additional creators — @fehin00, @sheaji_, @chef.deji, and @uddy_oz — were invited out to take part in the experience firsthand.

The group brought together a range of different creative backgrounds and perspectives. @sheaji_ is a creative, public speaker, first-time author, and business intern, while @chef.deji is a chef and private caterer. @uddy_oz helped document moments behind the scenes on camera, while @fehin00 contributed to editing the collaborative reel created from the experience. Another group @eshtooon and @picsbyamon brought their own creative perspectives into the collaboration through a mix of videography and photography blending their own video that they created together.

@eshtooon_ focused on cinematic storytelling and capturing the atmosphere of their experience in motion, while @picsbyamon documented the moments and details that helped shape the identity of the feature through photography. Having worked together for quite some time, the pair have developed a creative chemistry that allows photo and video to naturally complement one another which created a cohesive visual story throughout their experience. During the feature, Healthy Aligned Living had arranged a meeting with Comets Crew at Backstairs Burger, creating an opportunity to support the feature while also continuing conversations and relationship-building within the same environment.

Meanwhile Lo-fi hip-hop artist NVA92 came from Lloydminster and made sure not to miss being apart of the feature — That's a true supporter! Check out what he has to say about the burger below!

“I made the drive all the way across the city to try the Comet’s Cluck from Backstairs Burger, and it was more than worth the Edmonton rush-hour traffic. It was hands down one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. They use fresh, high-quality ingredients, and that’s reflected throughout the entire dish.

The Tuscan chicken was juicy and flavorful, perfectly cooked without a hint of dryness. The Alfredo aioli and balsamic vinaigrette created the perfect sauce pairing, giving the sandwich a rich and creamy balance. The combination of provolone cheese and the parmesan crisp added both a gooey texture and a cheesy snap.

Finally, it was topped with fresh arugula that brought a refreshing bite to everything else going on in the sandwich. Overall, it was a 10/10 experience, and I honestly wish I could eat one every day.

A great collaboration between Backstairs Burger and Comets Crew — and hopefully the first of many.” — @iamnva92

The feature also extended beyond the restaurant itself! Knowing how easy it can be for creatives to get caught up in studio sessions, editing, and long work hours without properly taking care of themselves, @hai.comett also dropped off two “Comets Clucks” to a pair of local creators working in a studio so they could still be part of the feature in their own way.

The Bigger Picture

Rather than treating the feature as a strictly controlled media campaign, the goal was to give creators the freedom to naturally interact with the environment, create content in their own style, and become part of the story themselves, even if that meant giving it a try. That approach helped transform the feature into something larger than a single collaboration — blending food, fashion, media, music, and community into one shared creative moment.

Comets Cluck represented something bigger than a single menu item. It became a reminder of what can happen when local businesses and creatives intentionally create room for others to participate, contribute, and grow together.

This whole experience reflected what both Backstairs Burger and Comets Crew continue to value most — community, creativity, and creating opportunities that extend beyond themselves... with some bad-ass eats.

This invitation was the perfect oppotunity to show a huge part of what Comets Crew has continued to build: using media, storytelling, and collaboration to create real-world opportunities for people to connect, grow, and become part of something bigger than themselves.— while The Mini CEO continues her journey alongside it all, learning firsthand what community and creativity can build together.

Thank you to everybody that was apart of this experience, and an even bigger THANK YOU to Backstairs Burger for the opportunity!
